Game Day Preview: Baseball Returns to Non-Conference Play in ECC Bye Week

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Following a four-game East Coast Conference series sweep over the weekend, the Queens College baseball team has a bye week from conference play as they open a four-game non-conference stand on the week.
 
The Knights welcome the Panthers of Adelphi University to town on Tuesday (Apr. 23) afternoon before opening a weekend three-game series against the Huskies of Bloomsburg University for the first time in program history. The series begins in Bloomsburg, PA. on Friday (Apr. 26) afternoon before the Huskies travel to Flushing for a Saturday (Apr. 27) afternoon doubleheader.
 
In the recent National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) East Region Week Ten Poll, the Knights are ranked fifth in the region as they received 60 points. Earlier in the year, the Knights received votes in the National Poll for the first time since 1998.

Scouting the Knights (24-14 Overall) | Regionally Ranked #5 (NCBWA)

  • Head coach Chris Reardon and the Knights enter the week with an overall record of 24-14.
  • Sophomore right fielder Jorsixt Jimenez (Flushing, N.Y.) leads the offense averaging a team-high .401 BA, 1.176 OPS%, .673 SLG% with 59 hits, 18 doubles, two triples, six home runs, 44 RBI, 40 runs scored to go with 26 walks and 15 stolen bases.
    • Jimenez has recorded 18 (10 (2), 6 (3), 2 (4)) multi-hit games to go with 14 (9 (2), 3 (3), 2 (4)) multi-RBI games on the year.
    • On Monday (Apr. 1) Jimenez earned a spot on the ECC Weekly Report Sheet for the fourth time.
      • One Player of the Week (Mar. 18 | Apr. 1) | Two Honor Roll spots (Feb. 26 | Mar. 25)
    • On Thursday (Apr. 4) Jimenez was named NCBWA East Regional Player of the Week for the first time this year.
  • Sophomore Joey Patane (Commack, N.Y.) is having a career year with a batting average of .360, .970 OPS%, .526 SLG% with 41 hits, six doubles, two triples, 22 RBI, 15 walks, and 22 runs scored.
    • On Monday (Apr. 15) Patane was named ECC Co-Player of the Week, his first top honors of the year.
    • The sophomore has recorded 13 (9 (2), 3 (3), 1 (4)) multi-hit games and five (3 (2), 2 (4) multi-RBI games on the year.
    • On March 30 Patane recorded his career four-hit game going 4-5 AB with a double and one run scored, and recorded his career four-RBI performance in the DH at CSI on April. 14 with back to back four-RBI games in the sweep.
  • On the mound, freshman righty Michael Vilardi (Massapequa, N.Y.) leads the Knights with five wins having pitched 39.2 innings while allowing 44 hits, 22 earned runs, 15 walks, and has struck out 33 batters.
    • On Monday (Apr. 1) Vilardi was named Pitcher & Rookie of the Week for the first time.
    • On Monday (Apr. 22) Vilardi earned his second straight Rookie of the Week honors.
    • Vilardi pitched his first career complete game in the 10-4 victory over Mercy on March 30, 2024.
  • While two Knights in freshman righty Peter Nenadich III (Bayside, N.Y.), and junior righty Nick Kozerski (Hicksville, N.Y.), have recorded four wins each.
    • Nenadich III has been named Rookie of the Week (Feb. 26) and one Honor Roll (Mar. 11) spot.

Adelphi University Panthers (20-17 Overall)

  • The Panthers enter the week with an overall record of 20-17 and are coming off a DH split against Southern New Hampshire University in NE10 play.
  • The Knights trail the overall series 8-29 and will match up for the second time this year following the 5-9 loss in Garden City.
  • Last season the Knights earned a 1-1 split against the Panthers and are looking to earn their first home victory against Adelphi since the 2017 season.
  • Joe Pellegrino leads the team by batting .417 with 50 hits, 10 doubles, three triples, nine home runs, 15 walks, 33 runs scored, and 42 RBI.
  • While Albert Ramos is batting .333 with 43 hits, nine doubles, one triple, one home run, 11 walks, 22 runs scored, and 29 RBI.
  • On the mound, Gavin Graff leads the Panthers with five wins having pitched 35.1 innings allowing 48 hits, 20 earned runs, 19 walks, and has struck out 29 batters.

  • The Huskies enter the week with an overall record of 12-27 and will match up against Chestnut Hill College on Wednesday before opening the three-game series against the Knights.
  • Both sides are matching up for the first time ever in program history.
  • Wyatt Metzger leads the team by batting .346 with 46 hits, nine doubles, one triple, 10 home runs, 14 walks, 26 runs scored, and 34 RBI.
  • While Josh Wilson is batting .333 with 41 hits, two doubles, three home runs, 10 walks, 16 runs scored, and 18 RBI.
  • On the mound, Will Dean leads the Huskies with three wins having pitched 46.0 innings allowing 55 hits, 25 earned runs, nine walks, and has struck out 28 batters.

Next Pitch

The Knights conclude non-conference play on Wednesday (May. 1) afternoon as they welcome the Chargers of the University of New Haven to town. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
