Queens Baseball’s Harkins Named Co-Rookie of the Year; Mallon, Vilardi Earn All-ECC Honors

FLUSHING, N.Y. – The East Coast Conference announced its 2026 All-Conference selections Wednesday afternoon, with the Queens College baseball team earning two All-ECC honors and one major award.
 
Head coach Chris Reardon and his coaching staff guided rookie John Harkins (Babylon, N.Y.) to Co-Rookie of the Year honors, while senior Vincent Mallon (Massapequa, N.Y.) was named to the All-ECC First Team as an outfielder and junior Michael Vilardi (Massapequa, N.Y.) earned Second Team honors as a utility player.
 
For the third time in the last five seasons, the Knights boast a Rookie of the Year recipient in Harkins. The rookie started 34 games in center field, batting .333 with a .503 on-base percentage and a .523 slugging percentage. He totaled 37 hits, including two doubles, two triples, and five home runs, while drawing 23 walks, scoring 31 runs, stealing 14 bases, and driving in 20 runs.
 
Harkins recorded nine multi-hit games and six multi-RBI performances, along with a season-best seven-game hitting streak and a 12-game on-base streak.
 
In his lone season as a Knight, Mallon earned First Team honors after starting 39 games and leading the team with a .406 batting average, which ranks seventh in single-season program history. He posted a .797 slugging percentage, a .500 on-base percentage, and a 1.297 OPS, totaling 58 hits, 13 doubles, two triples, and 13 home runs. His home run total is tied for the program's single-season record and the most by a Knight since 1998.
 
Mallon also drew 26 walks, stole 17 bases, scored 44 runs, and drove in 49 RBI, tied for the fourth-most in a single season. He tallied a team-high 19 multi-hit games and 12 multi-RBI games, along with an eight-game hitting streak and a 10-game on-base streak.
 
Vilardi earns All-ECC Second Team honors for the second consecutive season. The two-way standout appeared in 37 games with 36 starts, batting .311 with 28 hits, including six doubles and one home run. He added 11 walks, 11 runs scored, and 20 RBI, while recording seven multi-hit games and five multi-RBI efforts. He also posted an eight-game hitting streak and reached base in 11 straight games.
 
On the mound, Vilardi made 10 starts, earning four wins with two complete games and one shutout. He pitched a career-high 60.1 innings, allowing 31 earned runs on 71 hits while striking out 37 batters. His first career shutout came on March 13 against Molloy, when he limited the Lions to five hits and one walk while striking out five in a 2-0 victory.
 
He added another complete game on April 24, tossing a career-best 9.0 innings in an 8-2 win over D'Youville.
 
Entering his senior season, Vilardi owns 11 career wins, tied for fourth in program history, and four complete games.
