Baseball Falls In Slugfest, 12-11

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. - The Queens College baseball team completed its four game series with Mercy Tuesday afternoon.  In a game resumed after a weekend suspension, the Knights fell 12-11 on a walkoff win by the Mavericks.

Sophomore Karl Klesin picked up two hits and drove in three runs.  Junior Kevin Kolesar tallied three hits in the contest, and scored twice.  Junior Diego Gonzalez drove in two runs, while junior Joe Morris and freshman Andrew Navarez scored two runs apiece.

The two squads quickly showed that the game would be an offensive battle, as Queens held a 4-3 advantage after the first inning.  In the top of the frame, Klesin registered a two-run single, scoring Kolesar and senior Matt Dawkins.  An RBI fielder's choice off the bat of Gonzalez scored Klesin.  Morris then crossed the plate on an RBI fielder's choice by senior James Donohue.

The Mavericks responded in the bottom of the inning.  Joseph Sadallah crossed the plate on a wild pitch.  A sacrifice fly by Randal Mendez scored Bryan Torres, before a sac fly by Nick Arcabascio plated Scott Hagan.

Another three run frame by Mercy in the second inning pushed the home team ahead by two.  Torres delivered an RBI single, which was followed by another run scoring hit by Mendez.  Charles Fina then reached with a bases loaded HBP, scoring Torres.

After Mercy jumped ahead 7-4 with a run in the bottom of the fourth, QC took a scored six times in the fifth to take a three run lead.  Gonzalez drove in junior Joseph Pidoto with a single to left field.  A bases loaded walk to JP Koulotouros scored Morris, with Gonzalez later coming in on an RBI groundout by Dawkins.  Kolesar drove in Navarez with a single to center field, before Klesin plated Koulotouros with a single to center.  A failed pickoff attempt at first with Klesin on base allowed Kolesar to score the final run of the inning.

In the bottom of the inning, a trio of runs knotted the game at 10.  An infield single by Torres scored Giovanna Lasalandra.  Sadallah came across on an RBI triple by Hagan.  Hagan then came across on a bunt by Mendez.

A double steal allowed Navarez to score the go ahead run in the top of the sixth.  Mercy evened the score in the bottom of the inning when Liam Slattery scored on a fielder's choice by Lasalandra.  MC then plated the winning run on an RBI single by Arcabascio, scoring Hagan.

Matt Snyder picked up the win for Mercy, with two innings of relief.  Senior Brandon Burrell took the loss.  QC is back in action Wednesday afternoon against Nyack (3:00 pm).
