Late Inning Rally Not Enough In Series Finale Against LIU Post

Box Score

FLUSHING, N.Y. - The Queens College baseball team fell 6-5 in ten innings in the final game of its four game series with LIU Post Sunday at Hennekens Stadium.  After plating two runs in the bottom of the ninth to push the game to extras, the Knights were unable to match the Pioneers' charge in the extra inning of play.

Junior Ryan Bender picked up three hits in the contest, while senior JP Koulotouros and junior Joseph Pidoto had two hits apiece.  Freshman Andrew Navarez drove in two runs courtesy of a tenth inning double.

LIU Post jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, before scoring a second run in the third.  A single by Koulotouros plated junior Kevin Kolesar with QC's first run, and cut the deficit in half.

An RBI single by Matt Bowers pushed the Pioneers ahead 3-2 in the sixth inning.  In the bottom of the ninth inning, Bender drove in Pidoto with a bunt single, and a sacrifice fly by Dawkins scored junior Joe Morris with the tying run.

In the top of the tenth, LIU Post countered with an RBI single by Bowers, before a QC error allowed two more runs to score.  Junior Kyle Bell took the loss in relief, allowing three runs, one earned, in 3.2 innings of relief.  Robert Paccione picked up the win, with 2.0 frames of relief.

The Knights are now 16-22 overall, and 7-13 in league play with one series remaining.  QC next hosts Wilmington Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 pm.
