Box Score 2 FLUSHING, N.Y. - The Queens College baseball team split an ECC double header to Molloy Saturday afternoon at Hennekens Stadium. Led by junior starter Joseph Broderick, the Knights took game one 10-4 before falling in the finale 7-5.
The Knights collected 22 hits over the two games, with three players registering three hits apiece. Sophomore Thomas Parish led the Knights with six runs batted in, while senior Matt Dawkins scored four runs and senior JP Koulotouros crossed the plate three times.
In the opener, Broderick pitched into the eighth inning, allowing two runs and four hits while striking out two. QC jumped out a 6-0 lead after three innings, before adding three more runs in the fifth.
Sophomore Karl Klesin connected on a two-run home run in the first, before a sacrifice fly by Parish in the second scored Dawkins with the third run.
In the third, Dawkins, Matthew Walsh and Brian Watters tallied back-to-back-to-back RBI singles, pushing Queens ahead 6-0. Parish then contributed a three-run double in the fifth. QC's final run was plated in the seventh when Dawkins scored on a wild pitch after leading off the frame with a triple down the right field line.
Broderick moved to 3-3 with the win, while Anthony Catinella (4-3) took the loss.
In game two, Koulotouros delivered a first inning RBI double to push QC ahead 1-0. The Lions countered with a three-run fourth inning, giving Molloy its first lead of the day. Anthony Alberghina picked up the big hit of the frame, a two-run single to center.
The Knights cut into the lead in the fourth inning, when senior James Donohue scored on a single by Watters. The Lions pushed the advantage to 5-2 with a two run fifth, as Galanoudis walked with the bases loaded and Christian Todd picked up an RBI groundout.
An RBI single by Morris in the fifth, and RBI single by Parish and in the sixth trimmed the QC deficit to 6-4, before Molloy added two runs in the top of the seventh. Queens completed the scoring on the day when junior Jorge Ruiz plated Koulotouros with a run scoring groundout.
Queens starter Cameron Burt (1-1) pitched into the fourth inning in the game, and took the loss allowing two unearned runs while recording nine outs. Bobby Kelly (6-0) went the first five for Molloy to pick up the win.
The four game series concludes Sunday afternoon.
