Box Score UNIONDALE, N.Y. - The Queens College baseball team dropped the opening contest of its four game weekend series to Molloy 17-6 Friday afternoon at Mitchel Field.
Freshman Nick Meola led the Knights with two hits in the game, while five players drove in runs and six players scored one run apiece. Of Molloy's 17 runs, only eight were earned as the Lions capitalized on four QC errors in the game.
After a scoreless first inning, Molloy plated seven runs in the second inning. Already ahead 3-0, the Lions scored three runs courtesy of a triple by Anthony Alberghina to left center. Kevin Podell then plated Alberghina with a single.
Molloy added six more runs in the third inning. Jack McCarty singled up the middle, scoring Anthony Galanoudis and Nicholas Gonchar. Alberghina then added another two-run single, before Angelo Navetta delivered an RBI single through the left side, and Gonchar picked up a sacrifice fly.
The Lions later extended the advantage to 17-0 after a four-run fifth. Queens cracked the scoreboard with four runs in the sixth inning. Senior James Donohue doubled to left, bringing in senior JP Koulotouros. Donohue later crossed the plate on a triple to right by junior Jorge Toribio. Freshman Thomas Medina drove in Toribio with a double to left, and later scored on a passed ball.
In the seventh, junior Kevin Kolesar drove in Meola with a double to left, and scored on Koulotouros' RBI ground out. The Knights host the Lions in a double header Saturday, beginning at 12:00 pm.
