Box Score NEWARK, N.J. - The Queens College baseball team fell by a slight 8-7 margin to Bloomfield Thursday afternoon at West Side Park in non-conference action.
Freshman Andrew Navarez led the Knights with three runs batted in, and was one of five players to collect multi-hit efforts. Junior Jorge Toribio and junior Ryan Bender both scored two runs apiece.
The Knights opened the scoring in the top of the third inning, when following a double by Toribio, junior Kevin Kolesar connected on a double of his own to left center. Bloomfield jumped ahead in the bottom of the inning on a two-run home run to left by Harry Montero.
The Bears distanced themselves for a moment with a five run fourth inning. Juan Reina delivered a two-run single to center field, while Cristopher Cabral and Stephon Moore delivered run scoring hits to right field. Cabral later scored on an infield error by the Knights.
Navarez cut the deficit to four with his first home run of the season to left. Toribio later came down the line on a wild pitch. Montero connected on his second home run of the game in the eighth inning to push Bloomfield ahead 8-4.
In the top of the ninth, junior Diego Gonzalez led off the inning with a home run to left. Navarez later singled in sophomore Karl Klesin with a single through the left side, and Toribio brought in Bender with a fielder's choice.
Queens starter Keith Rogers (0-1) surrendered five runs in 3.2 innings of work to take the loss. Bloomfield starter Justin Torres went the first seven innings, allowing seven hits and one run.
The Knights resume ECC action this weekend with a four series against Dowling, beginning Friday afternoon on the road (3:00 pm).
