Box Score NEW CASTLE, DEL. - The Queens College baseball team picked up a 4-2 non-conference win over Wilmington Tuesday afternoon at Wilson Field. With the win, the Knights improved to 8-10 on the season, while Wilmington fell to 2-13.
The Knights jumped headed in the top of the second inning when Ryan Bender reached first base off a fielding error to score Jorge Ruiz. Two batters later, Thomas Parish doubled to left field to give the knights a 3-0 lead, plating Brain Watters and Bender.
Knights starter Michael Calabrese (3-0) pitched 6.2 innings, allowing seven hits and two earned runs. Calabrese's day ended after he was unable to close out the seventh by allowing two doubles to put two wildcats in scoring positions with two outs. Robert Amato relieved Calabrese, and ended the inning with a fly out to right after allowing a walk to cut the lead to 1. The Knights added an insurance run at the top of the ninth inning to close the scoring.
Kyle Bell got his first save of the season as he pitched two perfect innings to close out the game. Parish led the knights with two hits, two runs batted in and two runs scored. Ruiz extended his hitting streak to four games as he picked up two hits, and a run scored.
The Knights return home Wednesday for a ECC showdown against Bridgeport with first pitch slated for 3:00 pm.
