Box Score QUEENS, N.Y. - The Queens College baseball team suffered a 4-3 setback to Bridgeport Saturday afternoon in East Coast Conference action. Trailing 3-2 entering the top of the ninth, the Purple Knights plated a pair of unearned runs to pick up the one-run win.
Sophomore Karl Klesin led the Knights with three hits in the game, while junior Kevin Kolesar and junior Joseph Pidoto also collected multi-hit efforts. Junior Diego Gonzalez drove in two runs for QC.
UB got on the board with two runs in the top of the first. Casey McCone reached on a QC error, allowing Casey Ouellette to score. An additional run came across on the play following another error.
The Knights cut into the deficit in the bottom of the fourth, when Gonzalez plated Pidoto with an RBI groundout to third. A sacrifice fly in the sixth inning by Gonzalez plated senior Matt Dawkins to even the score.
With runners on the corners in the bottom of the seventh, Kolesar singled to center field to plate junior Joe Morris, pushing Queens ahead by one.
In the top of the ninth, the Purple Knights picked up the tying run on a bases loaded single by Justin Carey. Daren Grabowski followed with a walk to drive in the winning run.
Queens starter Joseph Broderick (0-3) pitched into the ninth, but suffered the loss, allowing four runs, one earned, in eight-plus innings. Rob Anderson (1-1) picked up the win in relief for UB.
The two teams conclude their four game series Monday afternoon at 12:00 pm.
