Box Score 2 FLUSHING, N.Y. - The Queens College baseball team swept Southern Connecticut State in a non-conference double header Saturday afternoon at Hennekens Stadium.
Junior Kevin Kolesar (New City, N.Y.) was one of three players to collect four hits on the day, including a bunt single on a game winning squeeze play in the second game, a 7-6 win in eight innings. In the opener, the Knights scored twice in the eighth inning to pick up a 5-3 victory.
In game one, with the scored tied at one, the Knights jumped ahead on an RBI double to right by freshman Thomas Medina (Staten Island, N.Y.), plating sophomore Karl Klesin (Glendale, N.Y.).
The Owls scored runs in both the third and fourth innings to take a 3-2 lead, before QC knotted the game in the bottom of inning four. After leading off the frame with a single to center, Klesen came down the line from third on an infield single by Thomas Parish (Cortland Manor, N.Y.).
The teams would trade scoreless frames before the Knights scored twice in the eighth. Parish picked up his second RBI of the game with a single to right center, plating pinch runner Joe Morris (Syosset, N.Y.). Junior Joseph Pidoto (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.) then scored on an RBI single by Kolesar.
Red-shirt junior John Dondero (East Islip, N.Y.) made the start, allowing three earned runs in 3.2 innings of work. Senior Calvin Luk (Little Neck, N.Y.) pitched 5.1 scoreless innings of relief to earn the win. Griffin Bremer took the loss for Southern Connecticut State, after allowing the two runs in the eighth inning.
In game two, the Owls scored all six of their runs in the opening inning off QC starter Cameron Burt (Mattituck, N.Y.), highlighted by an RBI single by Jake Lieberm and a two-run single by Ethan Joyce.
The Knights countered with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Kolesar scored Parish with a single up the middle, and freshman Jorge Toribio (Harlem, N.Y.) later came around on a groundout by senior Matt Dawkins (Englewood, N.J.).
Queens plated two more runs in the third, as Dawkins scored Kolesar with a double to left field. Pidoto then drove in Dawkins with a single to left field. The Knights trimmed the deficit to one with a run in the fifth inning, when Dawkins scored once again on a double by Pidoto. Dawkins then scored the game tying run in the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly by Klesin.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, Parish reached on an Owls error. After stealing second, he reached third on the throw down. Kolesar then dropped down a first pitch bunt up the line, scoring the winning run.
Freshman Robert Amato (Staten Island, N.Y.) delivered two innings of scoreless relief, following by junior Michael Calabrese (Staten Island, N.Y.). Calabrese surrendered just two hits over five innings while striking out two.
The Knights turn right around, and travel to the Owls' home for another double header.
