Box Score 2 MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Queens College baseball team picked up its first two victories of the season with a double header sweep of Stonehill at the Ripken Experience Northeast Challenge. The Knights recorded 14 hits and earned a 9-5 victory in the opener, before posting a 2-1 win in game two.
Sophomore Thomas Parrish went 5-7 effort at the plate, to go along with two stolen bases, two runs and a RBI. Junior Kevin Kolesar went 3-7 with four stolen bases and three runs, while senior first baseman JP Koulotouros had a single and home run.
Sophomore righthander Cameron Burt took the ball in game one and went 3.2 innings, allowing three earned runs and four walks. In relief, junior Michael Calabrese pitched to the eighth inning, and surrendered six hits and two earned runs to earn the victory.
Queens took control early, scoring three times in the top of the first while recording four hits. Kolesar, Parish and Koulotouros each singled to start the game and load the bases. Sophomore Karl Klesin was hit by a pitch two batters later to bring the first run in, while freshman Thomas Medina followed that up with a two run single.
Queens added runs in the second and third before Stonehill broke through in the bottom of the third to cut the deficit to 5-2. Lead-off home runs by Stonehill in the sixth and seventh cut the lead to one, 7-5. Koulotouros led off the seventh inning with a home run to push the lead to 8-5, before Parish hit a single, stole second and scored on a pass ball to cap the scoring in game one.
Game number two was highlighted by the pitching of junior righty Joseph Broderick, who logged six innings, striking out nine and allowing one earned run.
Stonehill got on the board in the first inning but Queens responded in the bottom half of the first after Kolesar reached on an error and stole second and third base, before reaching home on a passed ball. Junior outfielder Diego Gonzalez scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning when he reached first on a single, proceeded to steal second base before he was moved to third on a sacrifice bunt. Gonzalez then scored on an error.
