Knights Score Season-High 11 Runs in 11-2 Rout of Mercy

Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. - The Queens College baseball team scored a season-high 11 runs in an 11-2 win over Mercy in an East Coast Conference baseball game from Dobbs Ferry, New York, on Friday.  The previous high was ten runs, which they scored in a 10-9 win over Felician back in March.

 

Queens jumped ahead, 2-0 with runs in the second and third.  Dan Walsh led off the second with a double.  He can in to score on a base hit from Matthew Walsh.  In the third, Matt Dawkins led off with a single. Kevin Kolesar followed with a single.  Two batters later, Dan Walsh frove in Dawkins with a single.

 

The lead went from 2-0 to 6-0 for QC with four runs in the sixth.  With one out, James Donohue was hit by a pitch.  Joseph Paparella followed with a base hit.  Donohue scored on the hit when it was misplayed by the outfielder for an error.  Joe Morris followed with a base hit to center that drove in Paparella.  Queens led 4-0.  Thomas Parish then connected on a double into the left field corner that plated Morris.  Finally, QC went up 6-0 on a Dawkins sacrifice fly that brought in Parish.  The Mavericks responded with two runs in the bottom of the frame to pull within 6-2.

 

The Knights capped the scoring with five runs in the seventh.  Dan Walsh walked, Paparella singled and Morris was hit by the pitch and Queens had the bases loaded.  Parish drove in his second run of the game with a walk that made the score 7-2.  Dawkins then lifted a bases-clearing double to left that scored Paparella, Morris and Parish.  Queens went ahead 10-2.  Kolesar followed with his own double that scored Dawkins.  Queens went on for the 11-2 win.

 

In the game, the Knights clubbed 13 hits and seven of the starters had at least one hit.  Kolesar led the team with three hits, while Dawkins drove in four runs.  Calvin Luk improved to 3-1 on the season with eight innings pitched.  He surrendered just five hits and struck out five.  Thomas Zaki threw a scoreless ninth.


The Queens College baseball team returns to action on Saturday, May 2, when they host Mercy for an ECC doubleheader.  The first pitch is slated for noon.
