Gerdowsky Drives in a Pair in Loss to Dominican

Box Score

Pomona, N.Y.-  The Queens College baseball team fell to Dominican, 7-5, in a game played in Pomona, New York on Wednesday.  C.J. Gerdowsky drove in a pair for the Knights.

The Queens bats were alive early as the team scored three times in the first to take a 3-0 lead.  Thomas Parish and Kevin Kolesar each were hit by a pitch to start the game.  Two batters later, Diego Gonzalez ripped an RBI single through the left side to score Parrish.  Two batters later, Joseph Paparella walked to load the bases for Gerdowsky.  The catcher came through with a clutch, two-RBI single to left that scored Gonzalez and Kolesar and gave the Knights a 3-0 lead.

Starting pitcher, Francesco Monastra held the Chargers at bay until the third inning when they scored four times (only on two earned runs) to take a 4-3 lead.  Thomas Zaki relieved Monastra and the freshman threw four scoreless innings of relief, giving up just one hit along the way.

QC regained the lead in the fifth by scoring twice.  Parish and Kolesar each reached on base hits.  Matt Dawkins was next and reached on an error that allowed Parish to score.  Kolesar later scored on a wild pitch and the Knights led 5-4.

Matt Walsh relieved Zaki in the eighth and Domincan scored three times in that frame to take a 7-5 lead.   Joe Morris walked in the ninth for the Knights, which brought the tying run to the plate, but the team couldn't score and fell to Dominican, 7-5.

The Knights return to action on Thursday, April 9, when they return to Pomona to face Nyack College at 7:00 PM.
