Dawkins and Gonzalez Combine for Five Hits Against Bridgeport

Flushing, N.Y. - The Queens College baseball team fell to Bridgeport, in an snowy, East Coast Conference game played at the baseball field in Flushing on Saturday.  Matt Dawkins and Diego Gonzalez combined to go 5-9 in the game.

 

Queens jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the first.  Thomas Parish led off with a walk.  Two batters later Dawkins reached on a bunt single and Parish moved to third.  Gonzalez followed with a double to right that scored Parish and placed Dawkins on third.  Dawkins scored on an RBI ground out from Dan Walsh.

 

The Purple Knights took the lead with three runs in the fourth.  They added a run each in the fifth and the sixth and led 5-2 after six innings of play.  Two innings later, Bridgeport scored twice more and led 7-2.

 

The Knights answered with a run in the bottom of the eighth.  Gonzalez led off with a double and moved to third on a wild pitch.  Dan Walsh walked to put runners at the corners.  Anthony Nunez picked up the third RBI with a grounder to short that had Walsh forced out.  Gonzalez scored and Queens trailed 7-3.  QC got two runners on in the ninth, but failed to score and Bridgeport won, 7-3.

 

Brandon Burrell fell to 0-2 with the loss.  Dawkins had three hits and scored a run.  Gonzalez ripped a pair of doubles and drove in one.

 

Bridgeport and Queens meet again on Sunday, March 29, for a noontime doubleheader in Flushing.  The Knights will be the visitors in the games on Sunday.
