Rosario's Home Run Keys 6-4 Win Over LIU Post on Senior Day

Box Score

Flushing, N.Y. - The Queens College baseball team sent the seniors out in style, with a 6-4 win over LIU Post from the baseball field in Flushing on Sunday.  Robert Rosario, who was honored along with fellow seniors Jonathan Ramos and Jonathan Russell, blasted a three-run-home run that lifted the Knights to victory.

The Pioneers took a 1-0 lead in the first as they got a run off QC starter, Brandon Burrell, who went the distance to earn his first win of the season.  The Knights responded in the second.

After a Luca Altamirano double scored Stefan Sahagun to tie the game at 1-1-, in a script that would be better than any Hollywood movie, a walk-on senior, Rosario, with his mother in the audience at just her second game-ever, watches her son blast a three run home run off of the school beyond the wall in left field.  Altamirano and C.J. Gerdowsky scored on the hit.  It was Rosario's first career home run and a career-high 3, RBI game.  Also, it put Queens in the lead, 4-1.

QC made the score 5-1 in the third when Altamirano drove in Joe Morris with an infield single.  The Knights added an insurance run in the seventh when Morris triple and scored on a Lebro Burnette RBI base hit.  The Pioneers scored once in the eighth and twice in the ninth, but QC held on for the 6-4 win.

Burnette had three hits and Dan Walsh, Altamirano and Morris had two.  The team finished the 2014 season with two wins and posted an overall record of 10-24, with a 5-19 conference ledger.
