Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Brookville, N.Y. - The Queens College baseball team received another pair of stellar starts on Saturday to earn a doubleheader split with LIU Post, losing the opener 3-1, but winning the nightcap, 5-1, in a pair of games played at the Pioneers' baseball field in Brookville, New York.  Jonathan Russell started the first game and Frank Kaplan pitched game two.

On Friday, Joseph Broderick gave QC a strong outing and Russell was up to the task on Saturday, throwing seven strong innings before Crissandry Javier tossed a scoreless eighth.

LIU Post manufactured a run in the third to take a 1-0 lead.  The game remained at the score until the Knights tied it at 1-all in the seventh.

Dan Walsh led off with a single to center.  He moved to second on an error and took third on a sacrifice bunt.  Eventually he scored the tying run on an RBI base hit from Joseph Paparella.

The Pioneers scored twice in the seventh and went on to win 3-1.  C.J. Gerdowsky hit a double in the loss.

Game two had Kaplan toss a complete-game, five-hitter to earn his second win of the year.  Queens took the lead in the second when Gerdowsky singled and scored on a Stefan Sahagun triple to center.  The Pioneers evened the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the inning with a triple and an RBI ground out.

QC took the lead for good in the fourth by scoring four times.  Nick Osburn led off with a double.  Joe Morris and Lebro Burnette followed with walks.  Gerdowsky lifted a ball that was misplayed in right for an error, but Morris and Osburn scored to put the Knights ahead, 3-1.  Three batters later, Lenny Torres ripped a two-RBI single up the middle that forced home Gerdowsky and Burnette.  Queens had a 5-1 lead.

The QC defense turned double plays in the sixth and seventh to help preserve the 5-1 win.  Torres and Gerdowsky each had a pair of RBI in the victory.

These two teams will conclude there series on Sunday, May 4, in a single game played at Queens.  The first pitch is scheduled for noon and QC will hold its senior day ceremony prior to the start of action.
