Box Score Bridgeport, Conn. - The Queens College baseball team split a doubleheader with Bridgeport on Saturday in Bridgeport, Connecticut. The Knights dropped the opener, 7-1 and took the second game, 1-0. Jonathan Russell struck out 17 batters in game two.
In game one, Lebro Burnette had a game-best three hits in five at-bats. Nick Osburn was 2-2 and scored the Knights' lone run. Crissandry Javier and Yakov Trukhin tossed four scoreless innings in relief.
QC got its run in the seventh inninng. Osburn led off with a walk. Joseph Pidoto followed with a single. Joseph Paparella walked to load the bases, and Luca Altamirano drove in Osburn with a walk.
Frank Kaplan took the loss in game one as he gave up seven runs in four innings of work. He did manage to strike out four Purple Knights.
Game two saw Jonathan Russell improve to 3-1 with a complete game shutout. He scattered just two hits across seven innings and struck out 17 of the 28 batters he faced. The 17 strikeouts is the most by a QC pitcher in over two seasons.
The Knights got their lone run in the fourth inning when Osburn doubled and came in on an error.The team is now 7-8 overall and 2-5 in East Coast Conference play. The Knights and Purple Knights conclude their series on Sunday with a single game in Queens. The first pitch is slated for 11:00 AM.
