Box Score Uniondale, N.Y. - Queens College righty, Brandon Burrell, tossed a complete game but came up the hard-luck loser in a 2-1 setback to Molloy on Saturday from Mitchell Field in Uniondale. Luca Altamirano, C.J. Gerdowsky and Nick Osburn each had a pair of hits for the Knights.
Burrell was masterful early on, retiring 10 of the first 11 batters he faced. In fact, the only hit he allowed was an infield single in the first.
Queens took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning, Osburn led off the frame with a triple to center. Two batters later, Francesco Monastra drove him in with an RBI ground out.
Burrell took the slim, one-run, advantage into the eighth. He struck out the first batter and yielded a single to the second hitter. The St. John's transfer then got the next hitter to hit into a fielder's choice and there were two outs and a runner on first. The next to Lions singled and the game was tied. From there, Burrell committed an error and the go-ahead run came in.
The Knights entered the ninth down 2-1. Singles from Gerdowsky and Lenny Torres combined with a wild pitch, put runners and second and third with two-outs, but QC failed to get them in and they lost 2-1.
The baseball team returns to action on Wednesday, April 30, when they have a rematch with Wilmington on the road. The first pitch is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
