Pair of Strong Pitching Efforts Lead Knights in Baseball Doubleheader with Molloy

Uniondale, N.Y. - The Queens College baseball team moved  a pair of games from Flushing to Molloy's home field, Mitchell Fied in Uniondale, do to bad field conditions from Friday's storm.  Frank Kaplan and Jonathan Russell turned in a pair of strong starts, but the Knights were swept, losing game one, 10-3, and falling in game two, 3-1.

Queens took the lead in the first as Joe Morris led off with a walk.  He stole second and moved to third from a sacrifice bunt from Francesco Monastra.  Two batters later, Dan Walsh got his first hit of the game with an RBI single to left that scored Morris and gave QC a 1-0 lead.  Molloy took their first lead of the game in the third when Brian Murphy hit a three-run-homer off Kaplan.  All three runs were unearned.

Walsh was at the center of another Knights rally when he led off the fourth with a triple.  He later scored on a C.J. Gerdowsky ground out.  Queens pulled to within 3-2.

Molloy increased the advantage to 6-2, when they scored three times of Kaplan in the sixth.  Crissandry Javier came in to pitch the eighth and Yakov Truhkin the ninth, and they were roughed up for four runs.

The Knights entered the ninth down 10-2.  Walsh blasted his second triple of the game off the wall in centerfield.  Lebro Burnette singled up the middle and scored Walsh for the second time.  The Lions won 10-3.

Walsh had a game-high three hits with a pair of triples and two runs scored.  Kaplan threw seven innings, struck out seven and allowed just three earned runs.

Jonathan Russell pitched all seven innings in game two for the Knights.  He gave up one earned run and struck out seven.

For the second time, QC took the lead first, scoring a run in the fourth.  Nick Osburn reached on an error.  Two batters later, Walsh drove him in with an infield single.  The Lions scored a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth for the 3-1 win.

These two teams will conclude their four game series on Sunday, April 27.  The game will take place at Mitchell Field at noon.
