Box Score Uniondale, N.Y. - The Queens College baseball team used an extra-innings rally to defeat Molloy, 4-2, in 11 innings and to end an 11-game losing streak in an East Coast Conference baseball game played at Mitchell Field in Uniondale, New York on Friday. Nick Osburn and Joe Morris combined for four of the Knights' five hits in the win.
Joseph Broderick took the start and threw seven strong innings to earn a no-decision. He allowed just a pair of earned runs and struck out five. Francesco Monastra tossed the final four and earned the win in relief. He fanned four Lions and didn't surrender a run.
Molloy took a 1-0 lead in the second, but QC evened the score in the fourth. Monastra led off the inning with a double. He moved to third on a ground out and scored on an Osburn single.
The Lions pushed a run across in the bottom of the eighth to jumped ahead, 2-1, but the Knights responded in their final at-bat.
Morris led off the ninth with an infield single. Morris got to third when Monastra's hit was misplayed for an error. Finally, Osburn got Morris home with a fielder's choice that failed to record an out.
The game remained tied at 2-2 into the 11th. Osburn led off the inning with a single. He promptly stole second during Lenny Torres' at-bat which resulted in a walk. Luca Altamirano laid down a sacrifice bunt and the Knights had runners on second and third with one out. Osburn then came home on a wild pitch and Torres moved to third on the play. Torres then stole home and Queens was up 4-2.
Molloy had a runner get to third in the bottom of the 11th, but he was stranded there.
With the win, QC improves to 8-19 overall and 3-14 in ECC play. These two teams will face each other in a doubleheader on Saturday, April, 25, at noon.
