Box Score Flushing, N.Y. - The Queens College baseball team fell to #20 Wilmington, 7-2, in a game played in Flushing on Wednesday. Joe Morris led the Knights with two hits. Lenny Torres also had a pair of hits.
The game was scoreless through the first four innings as QC starter, Francesco Monastra allowed just a pair of base runners in the first four innings, as the Wildcats had a single in the first and a hit batter in the fourth. Wilmington scored four times in the fifth with the key hit being a Swirchak home run. The play was originally ruled a double, but then overturned for a homer.
Wilmington scored twice more in the sixth to led 6-0. Queens drew within 6-1 when they got a run in the eighth. David Velazquez reached on an error, moved into scoring position with a stolen base and scored by stealing third and advancing to home when the throw from the catcher went into left. Both sides scored once in the ninith for the 7-2 final. The Knights' run came off of a pair of doubles from Nick Osburn and Velazquez.
Monstra got stuck with the loss and the team is now 7-15 on the season. They return to action on Thursday, April 17, when they face St. Thomas Aquinas on the road. The first pitch is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
