Knights Outhit Ravens in Season-Opener Against #7 Franklin Pierce

Box Score

Yaphank, N.Y. - It was daunting enough for the Quenns College baseball team to have its open weekend washed out and having to travel 70 miles to the east end of Long Island for a season opener, but combine that with having to face #7 Franklin Pierce and it is no wonder the Ravens triumphed, 12-2, in a game played at Baseball Heaven in Yaphank, New York on Friday.  C.J. Gerdowsky had a double and an RBI for the Knights.

Franklin Pierce jumped out to the early lead, scoring four times in the first inning on just one hit.  The key hit was a 2-RBI double from Marty Dunlap.

Trailing 4-0 in the second, the Knights got on the board.  With two outs and no one on base, shortstop David Velazquez doubled into the left field corner.  Gerdowsky followed him and the catcher took a two-strike pitch into the right-centerfield gap for an RBI double.  Queesn trailed 4-1 after two innings.

Franklin Pierce scored the next three runs of the game, two of them coming on a pair Jay Jabs home runs.  However, QC would get on the scoreboard once again.

In the ninth, Dan Walsh singled and stole second.  He came in for the Knights' second run on an RBI single to right by Jospeh Pidito.  Queens didn't score again and the Ravens won 12-2.

In the game, Brandon Burrell gave up only one run in three innings of relief.  Five QC pitchers were used and John Dondero was tagged with the loss.  Joe Morris led the Knights with two hits and the team out hit Franklin Pierce. 7-6.

The Queens College baseball team returns to action on Tuesday, March 11, when they host Coach Reardon's former team, Caldwell.  The first pitch is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
