C.J. Gerdowsky Slugs Three Hits in a Doubleheader as Knights Fall to Mercy

Flushing, N.Y. -  The Queens College baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Mercy, 5-3 and 7-6, and are now 0-3 in East Coast Conference play.  C.J. Gerdowsky had three hits across both games for the Knights.

QC got on the board in the first inning of game one when a Libro Burnette single scored Joe Morris.  Mercy tied the game in the bottom of the inning.  The Mavericks got a run each in the third and the fifth and took a 3-1 lead into the sixth.

Queens rallied to tie the score in the sixth.  Dan Walsh led off with a walk.  He advanced to second on a groundout and Gerdowsky came through with a two-out, RBI single to center that scored Walsh ahead of the throw.  Gerdowsky took second on the throw.  The next batter, Stefan Sahagun, doubled in Gerdowsky and the game was even at 3-3.  Mercy put the game away with solo runs in the sixth and the seventh to win 5-3.

In the second game, Queens scored again in the first as Burnette struck out, but reached on a throwing error from the catcher.  He later scored on a Nick Osburn single.  The Mavericks scored three times in the bottom of the first to lead 3-1, but none of the runs were earned.

QC scored twice in the second to tie the game at 3-3 as the key hit was a two-RBI single from Stefan Sahagun.  Both sides scored in the third to make it 4-4, but the Knights went ahead in the fourth when Gerdowsky doibled and later scored on another Sahagun single.

Queens made it 6-4 an inning later as Walsh hit a double and scored on a seeing-eye singel by Michael O'Dwyer.  The Knights took a 6-4 lead into the bottom of the seventh, but Mercy scored three times to beat QC, 7-6.

The final game of the series is slated for Sunday at noon.
