Flushing, N.Y. - The Queens College baseball team spilt a doubleheader with Concordia College on a freezing Sunday afternoon in Flushing, New York.  An extra-inning rally helped the Knights earn the split; losing the opener 5-4 and winning the rubber match 2-1, in nine innings.

Brandon Burrell took the mound in the opener for QC and allowed just two runs over six innings of work.  He didn't walk a batter and his darting and fluttering curveball helped him register six strikeouts.

Queens took the lead quickly in game one as Joe Morris got on with a walk.  He advanced to second on a Nick Osburn walk and Francesco Monastra ripped an RBI single through the right side, scoring Morris.  QC led, 1-0, after an inning.

The Knights doubled their lead two innings later when Joseph Paprella reached on a fielding error.  The very next batter, Osburn, ripped an RBI double to left center, scoring Paparella and putting AC ahead, 2-1.

After a Joe Gallub RBI single got the Clippers on the board, QC pushed the advantage to 4-1 by scoring twice in the fourth.  David Velaquez led off with a walk against his former team.  Michael O'Dwyer followed with a single down the left field line, moving Velazquez to third.  Velazquez scored on an RBI base hit from Lenny Torres.  Finally, Joe Morris executed a perfect squeeze bunt to drive in O'Dwyer for the fourth run.

Concordia got a run inthe sixth and three more in the seventh to take a 5-4 lead heading into the final at-bat for Queens.  The leadoff man, Paparella, was hit by a pitch, but her was stranded at first and the Clippers took game one, 5-4.  Greg Walsh took the loss for the Knights.

The second game was a pitcher's duel that went to Queens in nine innings, 2-1.  John Dondero took a no-decision  despite throwing 5.2 innings of one-run ball.  Jonathan Russell earned the win in relief.  The Knights run came on Monastra double.  He later scored on a wild pitch.

Queens starts conference play on Friday, March 21, when  they host Mercy.
