Box Score Flushing, N.Y. – In unusual circumstances where the Knights were the road team on their own field, QC notched their first victory of the season, a 4-1 triumph over Bloomfield College on Saturday. The win was Chris Reardon's first as head coach of the Knights.
Frank Kaplan started the game and threw seven innings to earn his first win of the season. The sophomore gave up just one run on five hits and struck out two. He held the Deacons scoreless and hitless until the bottom of the fifth, when Juan Hilario would score on a Ray Lang RBI Double. Greg Gonzalez and Dan Walsh combined for the final six outs, with Walsh earning the save.
Offensively, the Knights got the scoring started in the top of the fifth. Shortstop, Joseph Paparella, got the Knights going with an RBI single that scored Joe Morris to give QC a 1-0 lead. Nick Osburn hit a high fly to center that was mishandled leading to the Knights second and third runs of the inning. Osburn would strike again in the top of the seventh, launching his second home run of the season over the fence in left-center to give the Knights a 4-1 advantage.
Coach Reardon's squad would not look back and will host the Concordia Clippers tomorrow afternoon with a double-header starting at 12 PM on the campus of Queens College.
