Nick Osburn Gets First Home Run as Knights Fall to Caldwell, 3-1

Box Score

Flushing, N.Y. - Tuesday was a game of firsts for the Queens College baseball team.  It was Coach Reardon's first game against his old team, it was the team's first game on campus this season and it was Nick Osburn's first home run that accounted for the run in the 3-1 loss to Caldwell.

Brandon Burrell took the mound for QC and pitched 5 and 1/3 innings surrending just three runs.  Those runs came in the third.  The Cougars nearly made it 4-1 in the fifth when Dan Walsh threw a runner out at home on a single to left field.

In the bottom of  the sixth, the Knights finally got on the scoreboard when Nick Osburn blasted a solo home run to left field.  The round-tripper made the score 3-1 for Caldwell.

The score stayed at 3-1 until the ninth, when Queens rallied.  Pinch hitter Mike O'Dwyer singled up the middle.  Luca Altamirano came in to run for him.  Altamirano advanced to second on a passed ball and moved to third on a Walsh single.  Joseph Paparella laid down a sacrifice bunt and the tying run was in scoring position.  However, Queens couldn't get either runner in and the Cougars held on for a 3-1 win.

In the game, John Dondero worked 3.2 scoreless innings in relief.  C.J. Gerdowsky got a hit for the second straight game.

The QC baseball team returns to action on Saturday, March 15, when the face Bloomfield in New Jersey.
