Mazzella's Four for Four Day not Enough as Knights Fall to Mercy, 3-1

Box Score

Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. – The Queens College baseball team went for the sweep of Mercy on Monday in Dobbs Ferry and despite a 4-for-4 day from first baseman, Anthony Mazzella (Wantagh, N.Y./Macarthur), the Knights lost to the Mavericks 3-1.  In the four game set, QC took three of the contests.

The Knights took a 1-0 lead in the second when Mazzella led off with a double.  He moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on an RBI groundout from Steven Varela (Glendale, N.Y./Christ the King).

The lead lasted until the bottom of the fifth, when the Mavericks scored a pair of runs.  Andrew Bock tied the game with an RBI single to center and, Michael Dern gave Mercy a 2-1 lead with a double to right.  Mercy scored an insurance run in the eighth and went on to win, 3-1.

Mazzella was a perfect 4-4 in the game.  C.J. Gerdowsky (Brooklyn, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) also collected two hits.  Joe Salanitri was the tough-luck loser as he threw 7.1 innings and allowed just a pair of earned runs.

The Knights return to the diamond on Wednesday, April 3, when they host Concordia College at 3:00 PM.
