Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 Queens, N.Y. - It certainly wasn't the
most ideal home opener for the Queens College baseball team on
Saturday, as they battled a snowstorm and dropped a pair to
Southern New Hampshire 13-3 and 4-0. The Knights are now 1-7
on the season.
Game
One
The first game saw the Knights fall behind 6-0 after
three-and-a-half innings of play. The squad got on the
scoreboard in the fourth as they pushed across a run. With
one out, Nick LoBello (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) singled up the
middle. Anthony Mazzella (Wantagh, N.Y./Macarthur)
followed with another base hit back through the box and the Knights
had two runners on base. Two batters later, Steven Varela
ripped an RBI single to center that scored LoBello.
The pushed two more runs across in the seventh when John Eyerman
(Merrick, N.Y./Calhoun) singled and moved to second on a wild
pitch. Danny Muller (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon)
followed with a walk and Eyerman came in to score on an RBI base
hit from Mazzella. The second run of the inning came when
Muller reached home on a hit from LoBello. Nevertheless, the
Penmen took game one, 13-3.
Game
Two
The second game saw Frank Kaplan (Howard Beach, N.Y./Xaverian)
throw six and a third innings and yield just one earned run.
He walked just one and struck out three. Frank Duffy
(Astoria, N.Y./Forest Hills) threw the final two-thirds of an
inning and didn't surrender a run. On offense, Warren
Kelly (New Hyde Park, N.Y./Great Neck South) had two of the Knights
three hits.
The two teams return to action on Sunday, March 17. The
first pitch is slated for 12 noon.
