Baseball Drops 2-1 Decision at C.W. Post

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. - Juniors Warren Kelly (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) and Steven Varela (Glendale, N.Y.) each went 2-for-3 Wednesday afternoon, as the Queens College baseball team dropped a narrow 2-1 decision at C.W. Post, in East Coast Conference action.

The Knights also received a strong complete-game pitching performance from sophomore Joe Salanitri (W. Islip, N.Y.), who scattered five hits, two unearned runs and two walks, while striking out seven Pioneers.

After C.W. Post scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, QC scratched back one run in the top of the eighth inning. Kelly singled to lead off the frame, and moved up 90 feet two batters later on Varela's base-knock to center field. Kelly and Varela stole third and second base, respectively, before pinch-hitter, junior Danny Herzog (Boca Raton, Fla.) lofted a sacrifice fly to plate Kelly with the Knights' run. Queens still had runners on first and second, but were unable to capitalize.

Sophomore designated hitter Chris Ramanauskas (Staten Island, N.Y.) went 2-for-4 at the dish with a double for QC, which will play host to the Pioneers in a non-conference match-up Friday afternoon at Ray Metski Field. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
