Box Score 2 FLUSHING, N.Y. - The Queens College baseball team dropped a pair of two-run contests to open up East Coast Conference play Saturday afternoon at Ray Metski Field, as the Knights fell victim to visiting C.W. Post by scores of 2-0 and 4-2, respectively.
Game 1: C.W. Post 2, Queens 0
Juniors Anthony Mazzella (Wantagh, N.Y.) and Steven Varela (Glendale, N.Y.) had one double apiece for the Knights, while freshman Nick LoBello (Baldwin, N.Y.) notched one hit in the game. Sophomore pitcher Matthew Cascello (Staten Island, N.Y.) was the tough-luck loser on the mound, scattering just four hits and two walks while striking out three in going the distance.
Game 2: C.W. Post 4, Queens 2
The Knights rallied from a two-run deficit to knot the game at 2-all in the bottom of the sixth inning. Sophomore Mike Shada (Holtsville, N.Y.) singled through the left side of the infield to score classmate Joe Salanitri (W. Islip, N.Y.; 1-for-3) and junior Warren Kelly (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) with two outs in the inning.
C.W. Post tacked on two runs in the seventh to take the lead for good.
The teams wrap up their three-game series at C.W. Post in Brookville, N.Y., Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
