FLUSHING, N.Y. - Sophomore Joe Salanitri (W. Islip, N.Y.) helped his own cause by rapping a two-run, go-ahead double in the bottom of the fifth inning Wednesday afternoon, as the Queens College baseball team moved back to the .500 mark with a 13-7 decision over visiting Concordia College at Ray Metski Field.

Salanitri earned his first college victory on the pitcher's mound, hurling five innings, while also batting 3-for-4 in the leadoff spot. Junior first baseman Anthony Mazzella (Wantagh, N.Y.) batted 3-for-6, and drove home Salanitri as part of the six-run fifth-inning for the hosts. Mazzella and Rob Bernardo (Staten Island, N.Y.) came home one batter later on Warren Kelly's (Jr., New Hyde Park, N.Y.) double to right-center field.

Queens was down 5-1 after one and one-half innings of play, before chipping away with single runs in the second and fourth frames, and a pair in the third stanza, to knot the game at 5-all. Salanitri singled home freshman John Eyerman (Merrick, N.Y.) in the second, before Danny Muller (Jr., No. Babylon, N.Y.) and C.J. Gerdowsky (Fr., Brooklyn, N.Y.) received bases-loaded walks in the third inning. Eyerman's fielder's choice in the fourth inning plated Nick LoBello (Fr., Baldwin, N.Y.) to tie the game at 5-5.

LoBello, Kelly and Eyerman finished with two hits apiece for head coach Tom Sowinski's Knights, who are back in action at Concordia in the back end of a home-and-home series Thursday at 3 p.m.
