WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The Queens College baseball team jumped out to a 4-2 lead in the sixth inning, but could not hold on as the visiting Knights dropped a 5-4, 11-inning contest against the University of Bridgeport.
Anthony Mazzella went 3-for-5 with a RBI in the contest for Queens (10-29, 8-17 ECC), while Chris Ramanausakas went 2-for-5 with a run scored. Michael Shada registered a triple, while Connor Burke and Robert Gaertner each drove in a run for the Knights.
Queens scored a pair of runs in the top of the fifth inning to knot the game at 2-all, when Burke singled home Shada and later came around on Gaertner's fielder's choice.
The Knights later went up 4-2 with a pair of runs in the sixth inning, as Robert Bernardo scored on an error and Mazzella singled home Ramanauskas.
Bridgeport (23-10, 16-7 ECC) tacked on single runs in the eighth and ninth innings to send the game to extra innings, before notching a bases-loaded single in the bottom of the 11th frame to capture the victory.
Head coach Tom Sowinski's Queens side is back in action Wednesday afternoon, when it opens up a five-game set against Dowling at Ray Metski Field. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
