Baseball Shut Out by C.W. Post, 6-0

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Bo Budkevics fired a complete-game five-hitter with 15 strikeouts Friday afternoon at Ray Metski Field, as the C.W. Post baseball team captured a 6-0, East Coast Conference victory over host Queens College. Warren Kelly had a pair of hits in the contest for the Knights.

The visiting Pioneers (5-23, 4-7 ECC) backed Budkevics (2-5 record, 91 of 127 pitches for strikes) with single runs in the second and fourth innings, as well as a pair of runs in both the fifth and eighth frames. Just three of the six runs that QC starter Matthew Cascello (7.2 IP, 5 H, 3 BB, 6 K) were earned, as C.W. Post took advantage of five errors by the hosts on the afternoon.

Steve Varela, Michael Shada and Eduardo Torres each had one hit for the Knights, while James Casella reached base twice on walks.

Casey McKay went 2-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored in the winning effort, while Anthony Corona contributed a double, run scored and RBI to the cause.

The two teams continue their series at Ray Metski Field on Saturday afternoon, with a twinbill of seven-inning contests. First pitch for the opening game is slated for 12 noon.
