CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. – The East Coast
Conference announced its weekly baseball award winners Monday
afternoon, and for the second straight week, a member of the Queens
College Knights has been tabbed as the conference's Rookie of
the Week. Freshman right-handed pitcher, Matthew Cascello was
tabbed for accolades, sharing the honor with Carlos Guzman from
Molloy.
Cascello fired a complete-game, two-hit shutout against Mercy in
the front end of Saturday's twinbill, facing just three
hitters over the minimum and striking out four Mavericks. Just one
runner reached second base, as Mercy hit .083 against the
right-hander – who picked up his first collegiate shutout
(and the Knights' first of the campaign).
Last week, Cascello's teammate, Robert Gaertner received Rookie
of the Week praise from the ECC.
