Box Score

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. - Starting pitcher Gabriel Guerrero, Matthew Cascello and Steven Varela combined on a two-hitter with six walks and three strikeouts Sunday afternoon, while freshman shortstop Michael Shada went 3-for-3, as visiting Queens College won its second straight baseball game with a 3-1 triumph over C.W. Post in the fifth and final game of the teams' East Coast Conference series.

Guerrero (7 IP, H, 3 BB, 2K) no-hit the Pioneers (6-25, 5-9 ECC) through five-plus innings, and moved to 1-2 on the season. Cascella allowed one unearned run in the bottom of the ninth inning, before Varela came on to pitch two-thirds of an inning in garnering his third save of the season.

Queens (6-23, 4-11 ECC) scored a single run in the second frame when Warren Kelly led off with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt, and came around to score on Connor Burke's double to right-center field.

The Knights tacked on two unearned runs in the top of the fifth inning against Pioneers starter, Kevin Chenicek (6 IP, 8 H, BB, 7 K). Anthony Mazzella reached on a one-out single, and scored two batters later on an outfield error. After Kelly stole third base, he came around as the throw-out attempt from the CWP catcher sailed into left field, giving QC a 3-0 lead.

Queens is back in action Tuesday afternoon, when it travels to Dobbs Ferry, N.Y., for a 3 p.m. first pitch at ECC rival Mercy College.
