FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Queens College baseball team fell victim to an offensive onslaught by visiting Dominican College, Friday afternoon at Ray Metski Field, as the host Knights were downed by the Chargers, 15-10.
Dominican (4-4) scored in each of the first five innings, including two runs in the second, four runs in the fourth, and five runs in the fifth innings to take a commanding 15-0 lead in support of starting pitcher, Justin Moore (2-0; 6 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, BB, 5 K).
Queens (2-12) got back two runs in the bottom of the fifth frame, while tacking on four runs each in the seventh and ninth innings to make things interesting.
Eduardo Torres came off the bench to hit 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI for QC, while Chris Raumanauskas went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. In his season debut, Brandon Ferguson went 1-for-2 with a run and two RBI, while relievers Gabriel Guerrero, Matthew Cascello and Reyes combined not to allow any earned runs over 4.2 innings pitched. Robert Gaertner (2.1 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 2 K) took the loss on the hill for the Knights, moving to 1-3 in his rookie campaign.
Head coach Tom Sowinski's Queens side kicks off its 30-game East Coast Conference schedule Wednesday afternoon (Mar. 23), when it plays host to St. Thomas Aquinas College at 3 p.m.
