Knights Fall to Armstrong 14-0

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The No. 22-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State University baseball squad plated four runs in the third, fourth and sixth innings to collect a 14-0 win over Queens (NY) on Tuesday afternoon in continuing 2011 Savannah Invitational action at Pirate Field.

The Pirates (10-2) stretched their current winning streak to nine with the victory, while Queens (NY) falls to 0-5 on the 2011 season. 

Armstrong sent nine men to the plate in the third inning, scoring four times to take a 4-0 lead. Michael Price collected an RBI single and John Roberts drove in a pair with a double, while Clayton Miller capped the scoring with an RBI single. The fourth inning saw another nine men come to bat as four more runs crossed home plate, highlighted by a two-RBI double by Miller, to put the Pirates ahead, 8-0.

In the sixth inning, Armstrong plated four more - highlighted by a two-RBI single by Price - to put the game out of reach. All the offense was more than enough for Pirate starter Chandler Hall (3-0), who hurled seven innings of four-hit shutout ball, striking out four to pick up the win.

Queens (NY) starter Kyle Contino (0-1) took the loss for the visiting Knights, giving up 12 hits and 12 runs - 10 earned - in 5 2/3 innings, walking four and striking out two. The Knights did not get a hit after the fifth inning.

The Knights return to action on Wednesday March 2nd when they take on Savannah Art and Design College at 2:00 pm.
