SAVANNAH, Ga. - The No. 22-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State University baseball squad pounded out 17 hits in picking up its eighth straight win with a 9-5 victory over Queens (NY) on Monday afternoon at Grayson Stadium in continuing 2011 Savannah Invitational action.
The Pirates (9-2) plated runs in each of the first five innings in building a 9-1 lead over the Knights (0-4) to cruise to the victory.
Armstrong collected six doubles in the game - two each from senior Michael Price and freshman Clayton Miller - and six Pirates registered multi-hit games, led by junior Drew Walker's 4-for-5 performance.
Trent Landa (1-0) notched the win in his first start of the season, giving up three runs and seven hits in six innings pitched, walking one while striking out eight. Blake Culberson earned his first save of the season by hurling three innings of four-hit, two-run ball, striking out six.
Queens starter Robert Gaertner (0-1) was saddled with the loss, giving up 16 hits and all nine runs in 4 2/3 innings pitched, walking one while striking out two.
The Knights were led at the plate by Chris Ramanauskas' 3-for-5 day with a pair of doubles and two RBIs. James Casella added a 2-for-4 day as well.
The Pirates and the Knights will meet again on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at Pirate Field in continuing 2011 Savannah Invitational action.
