COLONIA, N.J. – In the East Coast Conference's eighth weekly report of the season, four members of the Queens College baseball team earned conference honors Monday afternoon. Rookie center fielder
John Harkins (Babylon, N.Y.) was named Rookie of the Week for the first time this season.
Senior right fielder
Vincent Mallon (Massapequa, N.Y.) and junior right-hander
Michael Vilardi (Massapequa, N.Y.) each earned spots on the ECC Honor Roll for the second consecutive week, while junior catcher
Thomas McElwee (West Islip, N.Y.) collected his first Honor Roll selection of the season.
Rookie of the Week
Harkins batted .357 with a .412 OBP and .500 SLG, recording five hits, one triple, one RBI, and three runs scored. He notched two multi-hit games in Saturday's sweep, including scoring the game-tying run in the 3-2 extra-inning victory.
Honor Roll
Across four games, Mallon led the team with a scorching .727 batting average, .813 OBP, and 1.000 SLG. He recorded a team-best eight hits, one home run, five walks, three RBI, and six runs scored. The Massapequa native extended his hitting streak to four games and posted three multi-hit performances, including a perfect 3-for-3 outing in the 14-1 game one victory.
Honor Roll
McElwee hit .500 with a .538 OBP and .750 SLG across four games, totaling six hits, one home run, and a team-high seven RBI. In Friday's 6-4 win over D'Youville, he went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored, and three RBI. He followed that up Saturday with a 3-for-4 performance, adding another three RBI.
Honor Roll
Vilardi earned Queens' second ECC win of the season, tossing 5.0 innings while allowing seven hits and four unearned runs. He walked two and struck out a season-high six in the 6-4 win over D'Youville.
Next Pitch
The Knights continue their homestand on Thursday, April 9, when they welcome Caldwell University for a non-conference matchup. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
