Queens Hosts regionally-ranked No. 3 East Stroudsburg in Non-Conference Action

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Returning to non-conference action, the Queens College baseball team opened the week by hosting regionally-ranked No. 3 East Stroudsburg University at Hennekens Stadium Tuesday afternoon.

The Knights totaled 13 hits on the day, highlighted by multi-hit performances from senior Vincent Mallon (Massapequa, N.Y.), junior Niko Sorice (Rocky Point, N.Y.), and junior Paul Fiene (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.), who combined for seven hits and two runs scored.

Senior Connor Waiting (Seaford, N.Y.), junior Michael Vilardi (Massapequa, N.Y.), rookie Dylan Vikara (Westbury, N.Y.), and rookie Joshua Angely (Upland, CA) added four hits, one run scored, and five RBI.

Queens fell behind early as the Warriors used three singles and a walk to take a 2-0 lead in the top of the first.

The Knights responded immediately in the bottom half, sending 10 batters to the plate and tallying six hits and a walk to surge ahead, 5-2.

East Stroudsburg chipped away, cutting the deficit to 5-4 after the third inning, while stranding the bases loaded in the bottom half to escape further damage.

The Warriors regained control in the fifth, stringing together four hits to take a 7-5 lead.

Queens threatened in the sixth with back-to-back singles from sophomore Tommy Pasqua (Williston Park, N.Y.) and Mallon to open the frame, but East Stroudsburg retired the next three batters to preserve the advantage.

The visitors added insurance in the seventh to extend their lead to 9-5, a margin they would hold the rest of the way.
