FLUSHING, N.Y. – Returning to East Coast Conference action Friday afternoon, the Queens College baseball team fell to the College of Staten Island Dolphins, 14-11, at Hennekens Stadium.
The Knights totaled 14 hits, highlighted by multi-hit performances from senior
Vincent Mallon (Massapequa, N.Y.), junior catcher
Thomas McElwee (West Islip, N.Y.), rookie
Joshua Angely (Upland, CA), and sophomore
Tommy Pasqua (Williston Park, N.Y.). The quartet combined for 10 hits, eight RBI, and six runs scored.
After both teams traded runs in the opening inning, Queens erupted in the second, plating six runs on three hits. Junior
Paul Fiene (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) drove in a run, Mallon delivered a two-RBI double, junior
Jordan Babbo (Merrick, N.Y.) drew a bases-loaded walk, and McElwee capped the rally with a two-RBI single to give the Knights a 7-1 advantage.
Staten Island responded with five runs to trim the deficit to 7-6, but Queens answered right back. Mallon launched a two-run home run to center in the third, and Pasqua added an RBI single in the fourth to extend the lead to 10-6.
The Dolphins' offense surged late, however, scoring eight runs between the sixth and eighth innings to complete the comeback and secure the 14-11 victory.
Next Pitch
The Knights will host the Dolphins on Saturday, April 18, for an ECC doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
