Game Day Preview: Softball Opens Six-Game Homestand Beginning Friday Afternoon

FLUSHING, N.Y. – April showers have shifted the Queens College softball team schedule for the week. The Knights will open the week with a non-conference DH against the Setters of Pace University on Friday (Apr. 5) afternoon.
 
Queens will then welcome the Saints of D'Youville University in an East Coast Conference DH on Saturday (Apr. 6) afternoon before concluding the weekend in a non-conference DH on Sunday (Apr. 7) afternoon against the Golden Falcons of Felician University.

Scouting the Knights (8-9 Overall, 3-1 ECC Record)

  • Head coach Amy Delmore and the Knights enter the week with an overall record of 8-9 and 3-1 in conference play. The Knights are coming off a 1-1 ECC split against CSI on Saturday as they improved to 3-1 in ECC action.
  • Freshman utility Caylea Campbell (Murrieta, CA) leads the way on both sides of the field as the rookie holds a team-high .450 batting average with 18 hits, six doubles, three home runs, and five runs scored, three walks to go with 13 RBI.
    • In the circle, the rookie has recorded a team-high five wins in 60.0 innings pitched allowing 63 hits, 21 earned runs, 18 walks, and has struck out 48 batters.
  • Campbell has been named to the ECC Weekly Report Sheet on four separate occasions.

  • While junior third baseman Emma Zumpol (Patchogue, N.Y.) is second on the team with a batting average of .302 having recorded 16 hits, three doubles, four RBI, three walks, and a team-high 12 runs scored.
    • Zumpol earned one ECC Honor Roll spot this year on March 11.

Pace University Setters Preview (14-6 Overall)

Overall Record (Since 2000): 6-16
Current Streak: L8
Last Win: 2-1 (H, 3/31/16)
Last Loss: 1-3 (A, 4/5/23)
  • Pace enters Flushing with an overall record of 14-6 and are coming off a weekend split against Franklin Pierce on Saturday afternoon.
  • The Knights trail the overall series 6-16 and are on an eight-game losing streak against their non-conference foe. Queens is searching for their first win since March 31, 2016, when they earned a 2-1 victory in Flushing.
  • Brianna Shea leads the offense batting .433 with 26 hits, six doubles, two triples, four home runs, 18 RBI, three walks, and 13 runs scored.
  • While Raelle Gorman is batting .419 with 26 hits, six doubles, two triples, one home run, 16 RBI, seven walks, and 13 runs scored.
  • In the circle, Gisselle Garcia leads the pitching staff having earned a team-high seven wins in 55.0 innings pitched allowing 31 hits, 12 earned runs, and 20 walks, and has struck out 82 batters with three shutouts.

D'Youville University Saints Preview (6-20 Overall, 1-5 ECC Record)

Last Win: 9-8 (H, 3/26/23)
Last Loss: 0-5 (A, 4/16/23)
  • D'Youville enters the week with an overall record of 6-20 and 1-5 in ECC play. The Saints are on a two-game losing streak and will match up against Molloy before coming to Flushing on Saturday afternoon.
  • The Knights trail the overall series 3-9 but are 3-3 in Flushing. Last season the Knights earned a home DH split before falling on the road against the Saints.
  • Halie Furkas leads the offense batting .311 with 23 hits, seven doubles, 16 RBI, nine walks, and 12 runs scored.
  • While Gianna Adamo is batting .311 with 23 hits, four doubles, one triple, nine RBI, 11 walks, and 13 runs scored.
  • In the circle, Sarah Parzych and Kendal Lehnen have combined for six wins with Lehnen having earned seven complete games in 72.1 innings pitched allowing 122 hits, 83 earned runs, 61 walks, and has struck out 59 batters.

Felician University Golden Falcons Preview (9-19 Overall)

Last Win: 5-1 (A, 3/14/12)
Last Loss: 1-2 (A, 4/20/06)
  • Felician enters the week with an overall record of 9-19 and are coming off a DH sweep over Post University last Wednesday afternoon.
  • The Knights lead the overall series 7-3 and will match up against the Golden Falcons for the first time since the 2012 season when Queens earned a road DH sweep on March 14, 2012. It will be the first home DH against their non-conference opponent since the 2005 season.
  • Alexis Velotta leads the offense batting .377 with 26 hits, five doubles, three home runs, 13 RBI, 10 walks, and 12 runs scored.
  • While Layla Albarran is batting .333 with 16 hits, four doubles, one triple, one home run, seven RBI, two walks, and six runs scored.
  • In the circle, Riley Williams leads the pitching staff with a team-high six wins and one save in 93.1 innings pitched allowing 96 hits, 64 earned runs, and 42 walks, and has struck out 71 batters.

Next Pitch

The Knights open a four-game road stand in New Hampshire on Wednesday (Apr. 10) afternoon as they match up against the Penmen of Southern New Hampshire University. First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m.
