Softball Wraps Road Stand Against Spartans in ECC Twinbill

SPARKILL, N.Y. – On Thursday afternoon, the Queens College softball team wrapped up its road stand with an East Coast Conference doubleheader against the St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartans at Spartan Field.

The Knights battled in both contests but were unable to overcome early deficits as the Spartans claimed the twinbill by scores of 9-1 and 8-1.

Game One Recap – Queens 1, STAC 9

Queens was limited to three hits as juniors Caylea Campbell (Murrieta, CA.), Kadie Cain (Hauppauge, N.Y.), along with rookie Carla Chiaramonte (Middle Village, N.Y.), each recorded a hit. Chiaramonte also drove in the Knights' lone run.

The Spartans built a 9-0 advantage through three innings of play.

Queens looked to respond in the top of the fourth when Campbell singled, Cain doubled, and junior Olivia Wanser (Westbury, N.Y.) drew a walk to load the bases with one out. Chiaramonte followed with an RBI single up the middle to put the Knights on the board, but STAC turned a double play to end the threat.

The Spartans retired Queens in order in the fifth to secure the 9-1 win.

The Knights totaled four hits in the nightcap, led by Cain, who recorded her team-leading 16th multi-hit game of the season. Wanser added a hit and RBI, while junior Sienna Denino (North Babylon, N.Y.) chipped in a single and scored the lone run.

Senior Allie Parascandola (East Quogue, N.Y.) reached after being hit by a pitch to begin the game, but Queens was unable to capitalize.
