Amy Delmore returned as Queens College Head Softball Coach in September 2017. Delmore, who first began as the softball team's head coach in the summer of 2012, spent three seasons at the helm before departing to join the New York City Fire Department Training Academy.Â
During Delmore's tenure at Queens, the Knights have appeared in two ECC playoffs, two NCAA tournaments and won the program’s first ECC Championship in 2015. Additionally, she has coached several student-athletes to all-conference and NCAA regional awards. In Delmore's first three seasons, the Knights progressively got better each season, while earning spots in both the East Coast Conference (ECC) and NCAA tournaments in both 2014 and 2015.
Coach Delmore oversaw a youth movement in the 2019 season with a team primarily comprised of freshmen as there were eight rookies and fourteen underclassmen on the squad. The team picked up seven wins on the season, including a sweep of Mercy College on Apr. 16 of 2019 that saw Coach Delmore record her 100th career victory with the Knights.Â
With Delmore at the reins in the 2018 season, Queens tallied sweeps over Bridgeport, NYIT and Molloy. One of the more distinguished wins came with a 4-0 shutout win over Mercy, who finished second in the ECC. ToniMarie Valeriano who gave up just three hits and struck out 11 in a complete-game effort, achieved All-ECC first team for the year, notching her fourth all-conference selection.
Delmore, the 2015 ECC Coach of the Year, mentored 10 all-conference players, including four first-teamers, as well as four all-region honorees and two All-Americans over her first three seasons with the Knights. In 2014, Kayla Morrissey was tabbed as the ECC Rookie of the Year, while her and Monique Roberge both earned All-America status. In 2015, ToniMarie Valeriano was chosen as ECC Rookie of the Year, while Delmore was selected as the league’s coach of the year.
During her second season in 2014, Queens won 32 games, its most since 1999, and finished third in the ECC to earn conference and NCAA playoff berths. One season later, the Knights won their first-ever ECC Championship, taking both the regular season and tournament titles, receiving their second straight bid to the NCAA East Regional and finishing the year 35-16 overall and 24-4 in conference play.
Individually, the 2014-15 Knights had several student-athletes ranked in the top-ten on the ECC leaderboard. Under Delmore, senior standout Monique Roberge followed up her junior NFCA All-American campaign by leading the ECC in batting average and RBIs, while also finishing fourth in the conference with a 1.83 ERA and recording 113 strikeouts. Meanwhile, senior pitcher Isabelle Yaroch led the ECC with a 1.12 ERA on her way to posting a record of 7-1, and six of Delmore’s players finished in the top-20 of the conference in batting average.
Before arriving at Queens College, Delmore spent three seasons as the head softball coach at Manhasset High School on Long Island. Prior to that post, Delmore enjoyed a highly successful three-year stint as the assistant softball coach at her alma mater, Adelphi University. Delmore helped the Panthers compile a 112-48 overall record during this time and helped lead the team to two consecutive NCAA Division II Championships in 2007 and 2008. Elsewhere, Delmore served as a coach at the Pro Pitch Softball Camp from 2004-2008 and counseled aspiring softball players at Adelphi’s softball camp from 2002-2009.
Originally from Bellerose Manor, N.Y., Delmore had a sensational collegiate career as a second baseman at Adelphi. In 2005, she was the New York Collegiate Athletic Conference (NYCAC) – now currently the ECC – Player of the Year and was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association’s Division II All-American Second-Team. Delmore hit .304 during her playing career, setting a school record in doubles (46) and single-season highs in batting average (.418) and slugging percentage (.664) during her All-American campaign. In all, Delmore played in 169 games for the Panthers, including 158 starts.
Off the field, Delmore taught physical education at St. Mary’s Elementary School in Manhasset, New York, for five years before arriving at Queens. As a youth, she played four years of varsity softball and soccer at St. Mary’s High School in Manhasset, where she received four most valuable player awards.
Delmore graduated from Adelphi with a Bachelor’s degree in physical education in 2006, before receiving her Master’s in health education in 2009. She also serves as a New York City firefighter in Engine 291 in Queens (December 2015-Present).
