Game Day Preview: Baseball Welcomes D’Youville to Flushing for ECC Series

FLUSHING, N.Y.  – The Queens College baseball team returns to East Coast Conference play to conclude the week as the Saints of D'Youville University visit Flushing for a four-game series. 
 
The series opens Friday (Apr. 28) afternoon with a doubleheader before the Knights host a single on Saturday (Apr. 29) and Sunday (Apr. 30) afternoon to conclude the series. 
 
Scouting the Knights (Overall Record: 26-13, 10-6 ECC)
 
The Knights are coming off dropping a non-conference game to Wilmington University on Wednesday afternoon to conclude their two-game series. 
 
In the recent NCBWA East Regional poll, Queens stayed at the seventh spot earning 32 points. 
 
With the first NCAA Baseball East Regional rankings releasing on Wednesday afternoon, head coach Chris Reardon and the Knights are one of the 10 teams Under Consideration for the baseball tournament. 
 
Continuing his impressive start, freshman Jorsixt Jimenez (Queens, N.Y.) was awarded his fourth straight ECC Rookie of the Week honors on Monday (Apr. 24) afternoon.
 
Jimenez has tied teammate sophomore Marc Cisco (Long Island City, N.Y.) who earned four Rookie of the Week honors during his freshman campaign last season.
 
Jimenez continued to keep his bat hot as he recorded a batting average of .556 with .944 slugging % with 10 hits, one double, two home runs, seven RBI, seven runs scored, one walk, and one stolen base in the four-game series against Mercy. The rookie recorded three multi-hit games with two four-hit games to lead the Knights' offense to run his tally to 16 multi-hit and 13 multi-RBI games on the season.
 
Against Wilmington, the Knights were led by three multi-hit performances as Jimenez (2-4 AB, 2B, 2R), rookie Andrew Ramirez (Walnut, CA) (2-3 AB, RBI), and sophomore Matt Filip (Maspeth, N.Y.) (2-4 AB, 2RBI) combined for six hits in the game. 
 
As a team, the Knights are batting .320 with 408 hits, 262 RBI, 287 runs scored, and have earned 208 walks in 1275 At-Bats. 
 
Leading the Way
  • Rookie Jimenez is leading the team batting .401 with 55 hits, 12 doubles, one triple, six home runs, 36 runs scored, and a team-high 48 RBI.
    • Jimenez has 17 multi-hit games to go with a four four-hit performance with the most recent one coming against Mercy (Apr. 23).
    • The Queens native has recorded a team-high 13 multi-RBI games on the game having recorded seven (2RBI), 4 (3RBI), one (4RBI), and one (5RBI) games on the year.
  • Senior Anthony Fontana (Wantagh, N.Y.) is batting .395 with 47 hits, 26 runs scored, 11 doubles, one triple, six home runs, and 39 RBI.
    • Fontana has tallied 15 multi-hit games with six three-hit games and with the latest one coming against Lincoln (Apr. 15).
  • Cisco is batting .367 with 44 hits, 44 runs scored, nine doubles, two triples, three home runs, and 21 RBI.
    • The sophomore has tallied 12 multi-hit games with four three-hit performances and seven multi-RBI games on the season. 
  • Senior Reed Hoskins (Freeport, N.Y.) is batting .322 with 38 hits, six doubles, and five home runs, with 27 RBI and 26 runs scored. 
    • The senior has tallied nine multi-hit games on the season with one five-hit performance.
    • The Freeport native became the first Knight to hit for the cycle in game two of the SCSU (Apr. 2) series (5-5 AB, 2B, 3B, HR, 3RBI).
  • On the mound, junior Jordan Sanabria (Woodside, N.Y.) leads the team with five wins, while senior Dean Fazah (Queens, N.Y.) and freshman Christopher Naronis (Floral Park, N.Y.) have combined for eight wins. 
  • Junior Danny Gargano (Middle Island, N.Y.) leads the Knights and the conference with nine saves on the season.

D'Youville enters Flushing with an overall record of 17-21 and 7-9 in ECC play and are on a two-game win streak have defeated Mansfield on Tuesday. 
 
It will be the first series against the Saints in program history with the Knights leading 6-0 having earned sweeps in 2021 and 2022. 
 
As a team, the Saints are batting .278 with 337 hits, 201 RBI, 220 runs scored, and have earned 140 walks in 1211 at-bats. 
 
Billy Morris leads the Saints batting .396 with 57 hits, 12 doubles, one triple, eight home runs, 33 runs scored, and a team-high 36 RBI. While Ethan Hammond is batting .374 with 49 hits, 17 doubles, one triple, three home runs, 28 RBI, and 32 runs scored. 
 
Chris Auclair and Morris have combined for eight wins on the mound. 
 
Next Pitch: Head coach Chris Reardon and the Knights conclude their non-conference portion of the schedule on Tuesday (May. 2) afternoon as they travel to Caldwell, N.J. with a matchup against the Cougars of Caldwell University. First pitch for 3:00 p.m.
