Game Day Preview: Baseball Returns to Action Against Alliance and Goldey-Beacom in Non-Conference Action

FLUSHING, N.Y.  – Following their 2-2 Myrtle Beach trip, the Queens College baseball team returns to action in a five-game week beginning with Alliance University on Thursday (Mar. 9) afternoon. 
 
Following the single game against AU, weekend weather has shifted the four-game series change against the Goldey-Beacom College Lightning to Friday (Mar. 10) home doubleheader before the Knights hit the road to Hockessin, Delaware on Sunday (Mar. 12) afternoon. 
 
Scouting the Knights (Overall Record: 2-2)
 
Queens went 2-2 in their opening four games in Myrtle Beach as the Knights defeated Post University and Chestnut Hill College. 
 
In the recent NCBWA East Regional, Queens are receiving votes for the third straight week to begin the season. 
 
Junior Francis Segarra (Bronxville, N.Y.) led the Knights' offense recording seven hits with three extra-base hits as he recorded a double, triple, and a home run to go with a team-high eight RBI. in the Knights' 6-4 victory over Post, the shortstop went 4-5 AB to go with three RBI as he fell one blast short of hitting for the cycle as he recorded his first 4-hit game of the season. The Bronxville native would conclude his weekend with a game-and-career high five RBI as he unofficially hit for the cycle on the weekend going 2-5 AB with his first home run of the season.
 
Segarra would be named to the East Coast Conference Honor Roll sheet for his performance on Feb. 27. (Link)
 
As a team, the Knights are batting .252 with 34 hits, 22 RBI, 22 runs scored, and 18 walks in 135 At-Bats. 
 
Leading the Way
  • Senior Reed Hoskins (Freeport, N.Y.) leads the offense with a batting average of .444 with four hits, two doubles, two RBI, and two walks. 
  • Segarra brings a batting average of .389 with a team-high seven hits, three runs scored, one double, one triple, one home run, and a team-high eight RBI. 
  • Freshman Jimenez Jorsixt (Queens, N.Y.) has tallied four hits with a triple, four RBI and one run scored.
  • Senior lefties Liam Pulsipher (East Moriches, N.Y.) and Dean Fazah (Queens, N.Y.) earned the opening weekend wins.

Thursday's game will be the first meeting 13th meeting against Alliance and the first meeting since March 3, 2020, which saw Queens earn a 13-1 victory in Flushing. 
 
Alliance enters Flushing with an overall record of 1-9 with the visitors on a seven-game losing streak. 
 
As a team, AU are batting .161 with 45 hits, 30 RBI, 36 runs scored, and 38 walks in 279 At-Bats.
 
Eric Bittiger leads the offense having tallied a team-high 10 hits, five runs with six RBI with a batting average of .270, while Darnell Guerrero has tallied a team-high batting average of .333 and eight RBIs on the season. 
 
Matthias Giaesel earned the lone win coming against Virginia State University on Feb. 19 in the 5-3 extra-inning victory.

The Lightning enters Queens with an overall record of 8-5 coming off a 1-3 week against Millersville and matching up against the Knights for the second straight season.
 
In the recent NCBWA poll, the Lightning are ranked eighth in the region having dropped two spots. 

As a team, GBC are batting .282 with 118 hits, 72 RBI, 87 runs scored, and 56 walks in 419 At-Bats. 
 
Christian Petrillo leads the Lightning with a batting average of .431, 22 hits, four RBI, and 14 runs, while Darin Miller leads the team with 14 RBI on the season. 
 
Justin Jump and Tommy Federici have combined for four wins on the season. 
 
Next Pitch: Head coach Chris Reardon and the Knights return to action on Tuesday (Mar. 14) afternoon as they travel to Rutherford, N.J. with a non-conference matchup against Felician University Golden Falcons. First pitch set for 3:00 p.m.
