Game Day Preview: Baseball Continues Non-Conference Action Against Felician and Bloomfield

FLUSHING, N.Y.  – Following their 3-2 week, the Queens College baseball team returns to action in another five-game week beginning with Felician University on Thursday (Mar. 16) evening. 
 
Following the single game against Felician, hoping the weekend bad weather stays away, the Knights will welcome the Bears of Bloomfield College to town for a four-game series beginning with Saturday (Mar. 18) afternoon doubleheader before concluding the series with a Sunday (Mar. 12) afternoon doubleheader. 
 
Scouting the Knights (Overall Record: 5-4)
 
Last week Queens went 3-2 in non-conference action earning a victory over Alliance University before splitting two doubleheaders against Goldey-Beacom College.
 
In the recent NCBWA East Regional poll, Queens are receiving votes for the fourth straight week as they received nine points. 
 
Last week senior Jayson Rodopoulos (Scarsdale, N.Y.) earned an East Coast Conference Honor Roll spot for his performance. (Link)
 
Rodopoulos led the way with three multi-hit games as he batted .400, .700 slugging % with eight hits, three doubles, one home run, five RBIs, four runs, and one walk. The senior began the week with a three-hit performance against Alliance before recording two multi-hit games against regional-ranked Goldey-Beacom in the series split.
 
Rodopoulos is the second Knight to earn a honor roll spot with junior Francis Segarra (Bronxville, N.Y.) who was named to the Honor Roll sheet for his performance on Feb. 27. (Link)
 
As a team, the Knights are batting .270 with 76 hits, 49 RBI, 52 runs scored, and 41 walks in 291 At-Bats.
 
Leading the Way
  • Segarra leads the way with a team-high batting average of .351 with 13 hits, eight runs scored, one double, two triples, two home runs, and 13 RBI. 
    • Segarra has tallied four multi-hit games including a four-hit game against Post (Feb. 25).
    • The junior leads the Knights with a team-high four multi-RBI games including a career-best five RBI against Chestnut Hill (Feb. 26)
  • Rodopoulos is tied with Segarra with a team-high 13 hits and is batting .342 to start the season with seven RBI, a team-high four doubles, one home run, and seven runs scored. 
    • Rodopoulos has tallied team-high five multi-hit games including a season-high three hits against Alliance (Mar. 9).
    • The senior has tallied two multi-RBI games on the games with a season-high three RBIs against Alliance (Mar. 9).
  • Senior Reed Hoskins (Freeport, N.Y.) is batting .350 with seven hits, two doubles, one home run, with six RBI and two runs scored. 
    • The senior has tallied three multi-hit games on the season with a season-best three hits and recorded a season-high three RBI against Goldey-Beacom (Mar. 10).
  • On the mound, the junior duo of Jordan Sanabria (Woodside, N.Y.) and Nick Kozerski (Hicksville, N.Y.) earned their first victories of the season last week, while rookie Christopher Naronis (Floral Park, N.Y) picked up first career win in the victory over Goldey-Beacom on Sunday (Mar. 12) afternoon.
  • Junior Danny Gargano (Middle Island, N.Y.) leads the Knights and the conference with three saves on the season.

Thursday's game will be the 13th meeting against Felician and the second straight road meeting between both sides. It will be the first of two meeting this season with the second meeting to come in Flushing in late March.
 
Felician enters the week with an overall record of 7-11 with the Golden Falcons on a two-game losing streak. 
 
As a team, Felician are batting .253 with 146 hits, 77 RBI, 91 runs scored, and 68 walks in 576 At-Bats. 
 
Haiden Walters leads the team with a batting average of .338, 23 hits, 12 RBI, 12 runs scored, three doubles, and one home run. While Anthony Lamar is batting .298 with 14 hits, 11 RBI, six runs scored, two doubles, and one home run. 
 
Logan Waltz leads the team with three victories on the mound having earned three starts in six appearances. 
 
Bloomfield College (Overall Record: 3-9)

The Bears enter the week with an overall record of 3-9 and will match up against ECC foe Lincoln University on Thursday (Mar. 16) afternoon before coming to Flushing for a four-game series. 
 
As a team, Bloomfield is batting .251 with 93 hits, 57 RBI, 66 runs scored, and 63 walks in 317 At-Bats. 
 
Elvis Lopez leads the team with a batting average of .421, 16 hits, nine runs, four doubles, and one run home run with three RBI. While Tyree Bradley has tallied a team-high 14 RBI with 10 hits, 11 runs, four doubles, and five home runs and holds a batting average of .357.
 
Justice Ramirez leads the Bears with a team-high two wins on the season. 
 
Next Pitch: Head coach Chris Reardon and the Knights will hit the road on Tuesday (Mar. 21) afternoon as they travel to Garden City, N.Y. with a non-conference matchup against Adelphi University Panthers. First pitch set for 3:00 p.m.
