Game Day Preview: Women’s Basketball Opens Three-Game Road Stand

FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Queens College women's basketball team opens a three-game road stand beginning on Wednesday (Feb. 15) evening in non-conference play against the Wildcats of Wilmington University as they travel to Wilmington, Del.
 
The Knights will then return to East Coast Conference play on Saturday (Feb. 18) afternoon in Rochester, N.Y. as they match up against the Redhawks of Roberts Wesleyan University for the second time this season.

Series Notes:
  • Wednesday's non-conference game will be just the third meeting against the Wildcats in program history and the first game since the 2008-09 season. 
  • The Knights are looking for their first win over the Wildcats in program history having fallen in the previous two meetings.
  • Queens is averaging 69.5 in the two games against Wilmington. 
Scouting the Knights
  • Queens enters the week with an overall record of 7-16, 5-8 in ECC play.
    • The Knights are coming off a 1-1 week having fallen to Staten Island Wednesday evening before a buzzer-beater stunned the District of Columbia on Saturday at home. 
    • Heading into their conference matchup against the Redhawks on Saturday, the Knights are sixth in the ECC standings. 
    • Road games have been unkind to the Knights squad this season as they hold a 1-10 record, while at home they are 5-4 on the season.

  • In 23 games, Queens is averaging 57.0 points per game on 37.4% shooting, 37.5 rebounds, and 12.0 assists per game. 
  • Sophomore Chelsea Reeves (Brooklyn, N.Y.) is averaging 12.5 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. 
    • Reeves matched a career-high 33 points in the victory over Roberts Wesleyan in conference play on Dec. 9.
    • She has tallied three double-doubles on the season.
    • The sophomore has earned ECC Women's Player of the Week honors on two occasions (Jan. 17 (Link) |  Dec. 12 (Link) )and a Honor Roll spot on Dec. 19 (Link).
    • Reeves has earned two Honorable mentions from the MBWA this season on Dec. 13 (Link), Dec. 20 (Link), and Jan. 17 (Link).
  • Rookie Brianna Davis (Bronx, N.Y.) is averaging 12.9 points and 8.5 rebounds per game in conference play. 
    • Davis tallied a career-high 22 points against Daemen on Jan. 29. 
    • The Rookie is coming off her fourth double-double of the season as she tallied 19 points and 10 rebounds against CSI on Wednesday (Feb. 8) evening.  She would finish the week with her fifth double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
    • Davis has been named  ECC Rookie of the Week on two separate occasions (Jan. 30 Link, Feb. 13 Link) and earned a Honor Roll spot on Feb. 6 (Link)

Scouting the Wildcats
  • Wilmington enters the week with an overall record of 2-22. 
    • The Wildcats are on a seven-game losing streak and are coming off with losses to Jefferson and Post. 
  • In 24 games on the season, they are averaging 40.9 points on 29.7% shooting, 37.0 rebounds, and 9.3 assists per game. 
  • Amber Washington leads the offense averaging 8.7 points per game.
    • Washington matched a season-high 19 points on Jan. 17 against Goldey-Beacom.
  • Fatou Ndao is averaging 8.4 points per game. 
    • Ndao tallied a season-high 18 points on Jan. 10 against Georgian Court.

  • Saturday's meeting will be the 21st meeting in program history and the second of the season with the Knights leading the series 13-7. 
  • In conference play, Queens is 12-7 overall with a 7-3 record at home, while on the road the Knights are 5-4 overall. 
  • The Knights are looking to sweep the series for the first time since the 2016-17 season. 
  • The last road win came on February 16, 2018, when the Knights took a 57-55 victory in Rochester. 
Scouting the Redhawks
  • Roberts Wesleyan enters the week with an overall record of 3-17 and 2-11 in ECC play.
    • The Redhawks are on a five-game losing streak.
  • In 20 games they are averaging 58.3 points on 37.2 % shooting, 34.0 rebounds, and 12.7 assists per game.
  • Georgia Haverlock leads the offense averaging 11.1 points per game
    •  Haverlock tallied a season-high 21 points against Pace on November 12. 
  • Grace Galgano is averaging 10.4 points per game.
    • Galgano recorded a season-high 26 against the District of Columbia on Jan. 16.
Next Jump Ball
  • Head coach Bet Naumovski and the Knights conclude the regular season with their final road game on Wednesday (Feb. 22) evening in Sparkill, N.Y. against the Spartans of Saint Thomas Aquinas College. The regular season officially concludes in Flushing on Saturday (Feb. 25) afternoon as the Knights welcome the Mavericks of Mercy College on Senior Day.
