Baseball Opens Three-Game ECC Series against CUNY Dolphins

FLUSHING, N.Y. – April showers have postponed two non-conference games for the Queens College baseball team this week but the Knights return to action after a five-day layoff as they travel to Staten Island, N.Y. in game one of a three-game East Coast Conference series against College of Staten Island Dolphins on Friday (Apr. 8) afternoon. The Knights will host the Dolphins for a Saturday (Apr. 9) afternoon doubleheader to conclude the series.

Staten Island Series History
The Knights are 3-1 against the Dolphins having won all three-game in ECC play last season. The Dolphins are transitioning into D2 and are not eligible for ECC postseason play this spring. 

Scouting the Knights
 
Queens (12-9 overall, 6-0 ECC) are riding a four-game win streak having swept Lincoln University last week to move to 6-0 in conference play. 
 
The Knights returned to the NCBWA East Region poll and are ranked 10th heading into their third conference series of the season. 
 
As a team, the Knights are batting .272, .831 OPS, .435 slugging % with 179 hits, 103 RBIs, 21 home runs, and are 30-31 in stolen bases attempts. 
 
Senior Louis Antos (West Islip, N.Y.) leads the offense batting .453 with an OPS of 1.370 with 29 hits, eight doubles, five home runs, and 15 RBIs.
 
Last week the senior was on a mission last week as he batted .650, to go along with a .682 on-base percentage, and a 1.250 slugging percentage after going 13-for-20 with six doubles, two home runs, a walk, nine runs scored, and nine RBI in five games played. The senior tallied four three-hit games and notched an RBI in all five games. In the 3-0 sweep over Lincoln, Antos led the way as he went 9-for-12 with five doubles, two home runs, and six RBI to help the Knights move to 6-0 in conference play. 

On Apr. 4, Antos was named ECC Player of the Week for the second consecutive week.  Antos is the second Knights player to be named Player of the Week after junior Jayson Rodopoulos (Scarsdale, N.Y.) earned the honors back on Feb. 28.
 
On Apr. 7, Antos was named NCBWA East Regional Player of the Week becoming the second Queens College player to earn the honors this season.

While freshman Marc Cisco (Long Island City, N.Y.) is batting .411 with a 1.119 OPS, .630 slugging % while leading the team with 30 hits, 19 RBIs, four home runs, and 20 runs scored. 
 
On Monday (Apr. 4) Cisco earned his second ECC Rookie of the Week honors as he batted .588, with a .636 on-base percentage, and a 1.294 slugging percentage as he went 10-for-17 with four homers, seven RBI, and 10 runs scored in five games. The Long Island City native tallied four multi-hit games and homered in three straight games in the series sweep over Lincoln to help the Knights move to 6-0 in conference play.
 
Scouting the Dolphins
 
Staten Island (7-14 overall, 1-5 ECC) is coming off a Saturday split against Mercy College, but the Dolphins would drop the series 2-1. 
 
As a team, the Dolphins are batting .268, .729 OPS, and .353 slugging % with 124 runs scored on 164 hits. 
 
The offense is led by Domenick Castiglione with a team-high .420 batting average with 29 hits and 11 RBIs. While Shendi Ulaj leads the team with 17 RBIs on 21 hits with a batting average of. 362. 
 
Next Series
 
The Knights conclude their four-game series against Post University on Tuesday (Apr. 12) afternoon as they travel to Waterbury, CT. The first pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
