FLUSHING, N.Y. (Nov. 19, 2019) - Senior Gabriela Almeida won three individual races for the Queens College women's swimming team as the Knights competed Monday in a dual-meet versus Hunter College at the North Pool in Manhattan. The Hawks ended up victorious overall in the meet, knocking back a short-handed Queens roster by a final count of 60-35.

Almeida earned 15 points by herself in the meet, winning the 200-yard freestyle along with the 100-yard butterfly and 100-yard backstroke against the Hawks. Her win in the 200-free was a wire-to-wire victory in which she led after each turn and posted a time of 2:06.20 that was nearly seven seconds faster than Hunter's Cloe Mueller. Almeida's triumph in the 100-fly was a closer race, as her time of 1:04.27 bested Gabrielle Ozcos by a second-plus; her final win of the night was a similar one-second plus victory in the 100-back in a time of 1:06.76.

Elsewhere, Megan Dawes posted a strong evening with a victory in the 100-yard freestyle and two runner-up finishes in the distance races. Dawes broke the one-minute mark (59.84s) in the 100-free sprint after posting a solid second-place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle in a time of 12:19.90. The Australian native then took second place later in the night in the 500-yard freestyle (6:06.85). Amanda Giordano also posted strong runner-up efforts in the 50-free (28.90s) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:21.71) for the Knights on the evening.

Queens returns to the pool on Dec. 4 to compete in a tri-meet at the York College Natatorium against the host Cardinals and the Panthers of Old Westbury at 6 p.m.
